A 1940s Hamadan rug from northwest Persia. The colours and design are well executed with the "boteh" motifs in the central ground edged with the mysterious small animal motifs that we always think look like dinosaurs.
The spandrels have elegant, geometric flower and leaf designs and the borders repeat the flower and leaf motifs in more naturalistic forms. Altogether a very pleasing rug.
Thin pile, slight loss to ends.
