A mid 20th century Kashan carpet from north central Persia.
An elegant curvilinear design is worked on a cream field with a central floral medallion and curvy spandrels.
The pile is soft and velvety with a slight gloss. Very good condition.
Great court carpets were woven in Kashan during the safavid period but this virtually ceased after the Afghan invasion in 1722. Weaving was revived at the start of the twentieth century and contemporary production uses the traditional designs to create luxurious and robust carpets.
