A pretty 1920s Khamseh confederacy rug from Fars in southwest Persia. Dark blue stepsided field with triple pole medallion; all over angular birds with contrasting outlines, small boteh and various motifs. Main border of panelled flowerhead stars divided by small boteh bars. Small diamond shape medallion guards and dark blue and ivory chequered ends.
Overall wear. A rectangular cut out hole to lower left corner has been neatly patched with an unrelated but well matched piece (as seen in first picture). Slight loss to flatweave ends, fabric tape to verso.
