A 1930s Karabakh prayer rug from south west Caucasus. The vibrant colours and bold shapes create a very striking piece with almost a feel of Gauguin in Tahiti.
Dark brown mihrab filled with large winged medallions and small filler ornaments repeated in the top spandrels. Ivory interlinked medallion main border and red ribbon outer guard.
Slight wear and corrosion and slight loss to ends. Fabric tape to top end and left selvedge verso.
