A very attractive 1980s Afghan rug with stylized Beshir boteh design from Kunduz province.
Soft terracotta pink field with centre vertical row of ivory medallions flanked by a row of dark blue boteh; soft terracotta floral main border and matching guards; wide brocaded flatweave ends.
Altogether, a very harmonious effect with skilled use of colour and design. Finely woven, close cropped pile. A slight crease in one woven end.
For an almost identical rug, see Parsons RD Oriental Rugs vol 3, The Carpets of Afghanistan p173 pl118.
