An elegant early twentieth century Esfahan rug from west central Persia.
The ivory field features a vase of flowers below a midblue lobed medallion surrounded by scrolling flowers and foliage; terracotta main border of ivory medallions and strapwork; triple floral guards in red and pale blue.
The rug is finely woven and shows the remains of closeclipped velvety wool but the pile is now thin. Corrosion to dark brown in places and slight loss/fraying to ends. Some surface marks in the pale field.
