A cheerful and unusual late twentieth century rug from north Afghanistan. The dark blue/black field is filled with small colourful boteh motifs. Although the pattern is largely regular, the weavers have introduced a few tiny variations (see if you can spot them in the pictures) to bring character to the design.
A little loss to the fringes and to the corner of one flatweave end but otherwise in good condition with even pile.
